Legend has it, he was born Robert Alistar Jackson in the summer of 1866 on a southern Louisiana plantation. By the time he was 11 years old his father had disappeared. There were many rumors - one was that he died at the hands of a lynch mob, while other stories had him serving a life sentence of hard labor for the alleged crime of petty theft. As records were poorly kept for any incident involving former black slaves and the law, it is unsure as to what his final fate was. Robert’s little sister Jinny was three years younger that her brother but was still just a baby in her mind as she was born blind and mute. Jinny died one year after her fathers disappearance. Robert was left alone with his mother who slowly went mad. She was convinced that the devil was visiting her family and leaving a terrible curse. At 13, Robert left the farm to seek a better life. It was as though he simply dropped off the face of the earth, as he did not resurface until the age of 21 with an above average ability to read, write. He was also educated in math, science and history, which shocked and amazed as even most whites were not educated unless wealthy. Robert convinced - through clever reasoning and a show of superior intellect - a local pharmacist to work during the day as the pharmacists delivery boy and assistant. At nights he worked in a popular New Orleans night spot. He became known among the seedy underground who’s who as “The Doctor” giving remedies to patrons suffering from everything from hangovers to toothaches. It was at this point he began to dabble in voodoo. Having an uncanny talent for it, he sold voodoo cures, spells, hexes and dolls along with his traditional medicine until his death in 1938. By the time of his demise, The Doctor had gathered a significant following and loyal clientele that spanned half the globe. He had at least two wives and fathered 7 children, 2 near the end of his life. Sadly, none of The Doctor’s children were interested in continuing their father’s business. However, after hearing the stories of his namesake and how his great, great grandmother believed the devil had cursed them, intrigue and the same uncanny talent took hold of his great grand child, Robert Alistar Jackson III, born 100 years later. He revived the family business, much to the dismay and horror of his remaining relatives. He is called Doctor Bob, Doctor Boo (because his magikal talent often startles and scares the unassuming) or Doctor Boo-Bal-Ishus. But what the Doctor really offers is a world of Magic, 'Ol Timey VooDoo and a Dark Sense of Humor. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Just a Quick Note: Dr. BooBalIshus is a pseudonym for the artist responsible for the creations on demdamneddolls.com.
